Bolivia Trip
From Roadkrew:
Sorry folks, I know I skipped a beat Guadalajara went great, I have a few pictures, stop by and check them out (www.roadkrew.com ).
October 6 11, 2005, during this period I travel to South America. To be exact, the country of Bolivia. I had the opportunity to visit Santa Cruz, La Paz and Cochabamba.
The trip started Wednesday night flying from Houston to Mexico City, where I caught with the guys from Kumbia Kings to continue the trip to Bolivia. After the usual routine of check-in and security we are off to gate 28. Wait, the airport guy said gate 25. Huh?!?! My ticket said gate 28. O well I guess the airport guy was correct, gate 28 it is.
We finally board the plane and off we go. WAIT! Before we take-off there is a big thump. It appears it came from under Nandos seat somewhere. O well, off we go. The excitement is in the air so no one is sleeping.. Another reason no one is sleeping is because we are flying a old 727-200. With ZERO leg room! After about 4 leg of the flight, we land in Panama City. 4:00am and just about everyone goes into the terminal to stretch and to grab a few memories from the airport. We sit around and off to our destination, Santa Cruz, Bolivia. 4 hours later, touch down. Did anyone notice something was left out so far?!?! Anyone?! Going once No Sharpie attacks.
Thursday morning and touch down in Santa Cruz.. We load up and off to the hotel.. Enough time for a quick break and off to the venue Check out the venue, and the equipment.. Martin and Obe movers with a sufficient number of conventionals.. All this controlled by the ol trusty Avolite Pearl Mean time, members of KK show up for a press conference. WOW, everyone is anxious and waiting for the guys! Needless to say the press conference went great Everyone was in anticipation of the show on Friday night.
Friday night is upon us The Sonilum Convention Center in Santa Cruz was packed! No additional tickets were available. There were a few local bands and then Attaque 77 from Argentina performed. These guys have a great show! By the way, thanks for the t-shirt! KK hits the stage, the crowd goes WILD! All 15,000 are on there feet from beginning to the end. O, wait. Forgot to mention one small problem, the audio generator shutdown! OFF, NO POWER! NO SOUND! That is when the professionalism of Mr. CK kicks in.. Keep the grove going with percussion section, and play with the audience.. After several minutes of this, we have power, and the show continues without missing a beat!
Saturday, La Paz, Bolivia The flight from Santa Cruz to La Paz was short.. Upon arrival everything that was told to us about the effects of high elevation kicked in.. Gee whiz do not walk around fast, take it easy, next thing you know, you are out of breathe (did I spell that correct?).. Get this, there is a oxygen room at the airport You feel out of breathe, no problem, head to the oxygen room and they will take care of you. To the hotel we go Again, out of breathe, feel wired due to the high elevation, call the hotel doctor! O, the high elevation also came with rain and cold temperatures! The crew arrives at the venue a soccer outdoor stadium, and the question arises, Martin, estamos trabajando esta noche? And of the answer is, the show must go on!. The elements did not ruin the turn out Again about 12,000 in attendance.
Sunday, Cochabamba, Bolivia. Great, elevation we can tolerate The venue another soccer stadium.. A nice stadium! I forgot one thing, in South America soccer is king! And by the appearance of this stadium, do mess with soccer! Geez.. A few issues with production equipment, but we can we do, there must be a show, so we must make it work.. And we did, KK hit the stage about 10:00pm to a crowd of about 15,000. As in the past gigs, the crowd was on their toes from start to finish.
Made many new production friends in Bolivia, special thanks to (please excuse me I forgot his name, but he is wearing a yellow shirt in one of the pics in my photo gallery) for the tutorial on the Avolite Pearl! All the small details are very helpful!!
Monday, Cochabamba Day off Spent most of the day at the hotel, until late in the afternoon when several decided to take a trip to the Cristo De La Concordia. The monument of Jesus Christ is beautiful. If you are ever in the area, make an effort to visit this monument.
Back at the hotel, packing up getting ready for the trip home. Next stop, Mexico City, Auditoria Nacional
Take care!
